Husband Leaves Pregnant Wife for Influencer Until Parents Deliver Wedding Photo Gift

By seven the next morning, the smell of burnt milk filled the kitchen. I was stirring a pot of oats, the wooden spoon scraping the bottom. My lower back throbbed, a sharp reminder of the eight-month weight I carried.

Margot came in, her hair uncombed, her slide sandals dragging on the linoleum. She did not look at the stove. She kept her eyes on her phone, her thumb flicking rapidly up the screen.

“Mom,” she said, her voice small.

“Sit down, sweetie,” I said, not turning around. “The oatmeal is almost ready.”

She did not sit. She stepped beside me and held the screen of her phone inches from my face.

The bright blue of a rooftop pool flared in the morning light. Evan stood there in sunglasses, his arm draped over the shoulders of a young woman with very white teeth and long blonde hair. The caption underneath read, “Chasing sun with Brielle. New ventures, new beginnings.”

I stopped stirring. The oats began to bubble and pop, hot gray drops landing on the stove top.

“Who is she?” Margot asked.
