Husband Leaves Pregnant Wife for Influencer Until Parents Deliver Wedding Photo Gift
Evan checked his silver wrist watch, his eyes shifting toward the window. “It is simpler this way, Savannah. I need my things.”
“For a three-day trip?” I asked, my voice barely reaching him.
“I am not coming back,” he said, his voice flat and rapid, like he was reading a balance sheet.

“You will have the house,” he said, tucking a pair of leather shoes into the side pockets of the suitcase. “We will let the attorneys sort out the details.”
“Evan, we have seven children,” I said, looking at the empty drawers. “They are going to ask where you went.”

“This is about my survival,” he said, walking past me into the hallway.
Margot was standing by the linen closet, her hands gripped tightly around the plastic edges of her laundry basket. She stared at her father as he approached, her eyes wide and dark.
Evan did not slow his pace or look in her direction as he reached the top of the stairs. He carried his bag with a stiff, formal posture, his shoulders tight.
“Dad?” Margot called out.
The heavy front door clicked shut downstairs, the vibration rattling the glass panes in the hallway window. Margot dropped her basket, spilling the white onesies onto the hardwood floor, and ran into her bedroom, slamming her door behind her.
I stood in the quiet hallway for a long time, listening to the hum of the old refrigerator downstairs.
