Husband Leaves Pregnant Wife for Influencer Until Parents Deliver Wedding Photo Gift

By eight o’clock, the wind off Silver Lake was rattling the kitchen window panes, bringing the first cold chill of October inside.

I lay on the living room sofa under the light blue nursery blanket, staring at the brick fireplace. Margot walked in from the kitchen, holding a glass of tap water.

“Here, Mom,” she said, setting the glass on the end table.

“Thank you, sweetie,” I said, pulling the blanket up to my chin. “Are the others in bed?”

“They are all asleep,” she said.

My eyes drifted to the wooden mantelpiece above the fireplace, where the family photos sat in their mismatched frames. The space in the center, right next to the brass candlestick, was empty.

The gold pocket watch that had belonged to Evan’s grandfather, the one he always kept in the glass dome, was gone.

I stood there by the mantelpiece, the silence of the house pressing against my ears. I reached out and touched the dusty circle where the glass dome had rested for fifteen years.
