I turned my head to look at her, waiting.
“It is a video Brielle posted from their hotel in Chicago,” Margot said, her voice dropping to a whisper. “She was laughing about how Evan had to escape the dark ages of carpools and old paint.”
I watched my seven-year-old leap from the swing, his red jacket bright against the gray wood chips.
“They have over fifty thousand views on it,” Margot added.
“We do not need to look at those things,” I said, though my hands tightened on the wooden slats of the bench.
“They were laughing at us, Mom,” Margot said, her wrist snapping the blue elastic against her skin.
I stood up and called the children to the car before the first snow started to fall.
