Husband Leaves Pregnant Wife for Influencer Until Parents Deliver Wedding Photo Gift

I was sitting on the sofa, trying to find a comfortable position against the cushions, when the front door handle jiggled.

Evan did not knock; he still had his brass key on his ring, though he had not lived under this roof for three weeks.

He stepped into the hallway, shaking the sleet from his dark wool coat, before walking into the living room where I sat.

In his left hand, he held three cheap plastic toys: a yellow dump truck, a blue whistle, and a green spinning top.

“For the kids,” Evan said, his voice carrying a soft, gentle tone that I had not heard since August. “I saw them in the window of the pharmacy downtown and thought they might like them.”

He did not look at my stomach, nor did he look at the empty space on the mantelpiece where his gold pocket watch used to sit before I sold it to pay the electric bill.

“They are resting,” I said, keeping my hands folded over the blue nursery blanket on my lap.
