My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend
“We cannot take this without paying,” I said, adjusting the silver buckle of my belt as the wind caught my hair. “We have twenty-four hundred dollars left in the emergency cash reserve, and that has to cover the veterinarian’s fee next month.”
“This grain was paid for three weeks ago,” Tom said, his voice flat and blunt. “By a gentleman from the state agricultural extension office who wanted to make sure our new therapeutic riding program had enough feed to start the winter herd.”
I looked at him, my brow furrowing as I tried to calculate the cost. “The state does not pay for feed in advance, Tom. You know that as well as I do.”
“Well, then maybe it was an anonymous donation from some folks in town who like seeing those yearlings run in the north pasture,” Tom said, climbing back into his truck cab. “I’m unloading these bags into the dry bin, and if you try to hand me a check, I’ll just leave it on the seat of your tractor.”
