My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend

I walked straight to the equipment shed, climbed onto the high seat of our old John Deere tractor, and pulled the starter cord.

The engine roared to life with a thick puff of black diesel smoke.

I shifted into low gear, drove the heavy metal frame directly into the gap between our two stone gateposts, and shut off the ignition.

The tractor sat dead center, blocking the road completely.

Lisa marched up to the side of the tractor, her boots clicking against the gravel, her voice high and loud over the idling truck engines.

“Move this piece of junk, Lily,” she said.

I did not climb down from the black vinyl seat.

“You are trespassing on Brennan land, Lisa,” I said, my voice slow and deliberate.

“It is not your land anymore,” she said, letting out a sharp, forced laugh that did not reach her eyes. “The county records say otherwise, and we have come to collect our property.”

“Your property,” I said.

“The yearlings in the north pasture,” she said, pointing a manicured nail toward the breeding barn. “Samuel signed them over to LH Enterprises as part of our business restructuring.”
