My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend
“She’s trespassing, Officer,” Lisa said, her voice carrying clear across the yard. “We have the deed right here. We filed it yesterday.”
The deputy, a man who had gone to high school with my younger brother, looked at the paper she handed him, then looked at me. He took off his hat and wiped his brow with the back of his hand.
“Lily,” he said, his tone quiet and polite. “Is there a problem here?”
“The deed is a forgery, Bobby,” I said, standing on the top step. “My lawyer is looking at the original signature right now.”
The deputy looked at Samuel, who had come out to stand on the porch behind Lisa. Samuel looked away, his fingers working nervously against his belt loops.
“This is a civil matter, ma’am,” Deputy Miller said, handing the paper back to Lisa. “I can’t evict anyone without a court order signed by a judge.”
Lisa’s face turned a deep, angry red, her hand dropping to twist the fake diamond ring on her finger.
“She doesn’t live here anymore,” Lisa said, her voice cracking. “We paid for this land.”
