My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend

“This is a bank draft for Katie’s fall semester,” he said, pointing to a cashier’s check for nine thousand dollars. “It is fully cleared. All you have to do is sign the standard release form underneath it.”
I pulled my hands back, my fingers brushing against my silver belt buckle. I did not touch the paper, but I leaned in close enough to read the small print at the bottom of the second page.
The lines did not mention Katie or her tuition. The paragraph at the bottom was a complete release of all future claims against the estate, the land, and any business entities bearing the Brennan name.
“You want me to sign away my father’s pastures for a single semester of college,” I said.
Lisa let out a sharp, high-pitched laugh that made my ears ring.
“It is nine thousand dollars more than you have in your account right now, Lily,” Lisa said, leaning back in her chair.
I picked up the bank draft, folded it once, and laid it back down on the table.
“Katie will finish her degree,” I said. “But not with this.”
