My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend

Lisa was standing in the dining room when I entered through the side door. She had a designer leather purse slung over her arm, the bright orange leather looking completely out of place against the faded floral wallpaper of my mother’s dining room.

“We are willing to be generous, Lily,” Lisa said, her voice high and sharp as she tapped her long nails against the table. “Samuel says you can keep the two oldest mares. We will even let you use the small paddock near the road for another month.”

“This is my home, Lisa,” I said.

“Not anymore,” she said, her fingers twisting the heavy glass ring on her finger. “The paperwork is filed. The land belongs to us now.”

She reached into her purse to pull out a compact, and as the leather flap fell open, I saw the distinctive blue cover of the ranch’s primary operating checkbook tucked between her cosmetics.

The leather checkbook sticking out of her purse told me everything I needed to know about their mercy.

Marcus Fitzgerald sat behind his heavy mahogany desk at exactly two o’clock, his wire-rimmed glasses resting on a legal pad.
