I adjusted my silver belt buckle, keeping my eyes fixed on her face.

“LH Enterprises is a shell,” I said. “We found the transfer logs last night.”

Lisa stopped twisting her ring for a fraction of a second, her face tightening.

“We know you set up the dummy corporation to hide the four hundred thousand dollars Samuel siphoned from our feed account,” I said.

“That was a legal business consulting fee,” Lisa said, her voice rising another octave. “I helped him structure his assets to keep this place from going under, and the bank knows it.”

Behind her, Samuel got out of the Mercedes, holding his silver key fob in his left hand, the metal clicking against his wedding band.

“Lily, be reasonable,” Samuel called out, though he stayed five yards back, his eyes darting toward the main road. “We need to move the stock to satisfy the short-term creditors.”

“The only thing you satisfied was her credit cards,” I said.

“The trailers are staying right here until we load those horses,” Lisa said.

She pulled out her phone and began typing with one hand, a smirk returning to her lips.
