My Husband Sold My Two Million Dollar Land For Five Dollars To His Girlfriend
“Is that why forty-two thousand dollars is missing from the feed fund, Samuel?”
His hand stopped tapping. He stared at me, his mouth opening slightly before he pulled his lips into a tight, thin line.
“That was an investment,” he said, the words coming slower now. “A business loan to LH Enterprises. It’s all documented.”
“LH Enterprises is Lisa’s initials,” I said.
He didn’t answer. He looked down at the floor, his boot tracing the edge of a worn linoleum tile where the glue had failed.
“You bought her a Mercedes with my father’s horse money,” I said.
“The ranch was going under anyway,” Samuel said, his voice turning defensive again. “We were forty-two thousand dollars in the red by the end of last quarter. I just salvaged what was left before the bank took it.”
“The bank didn’t take it,” I said. “You did.”
At ten o’clock, the blue lights of a county cruiser reflected off the kitchen window. Deputy Miller parked behind the moving truck, his boots crunching slowly on the gravel as he walked toward the porch where Lisa was waiting.
