Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room

I rubbed my left wrist where my watch usually sat when I was anxious, finding only bare skin. “What else did you find?”

“Three separate wire transfers out of our operating reserve,” Brandon said, pointing his brass pen at the ledger on the screen. “All of them cleared yesterday morning while you were in the recovery room.”

“Our payroll account is with First National,” I said, my voice flat. “We do not touch the reserve unless we are buying steel.”

“These did not go to our regular suppliers,” Brandon said, tapping the heavy brass pen against his desk. “They were sent to an entity called Apex Consulting Group.”

I leaned over his shoulder, the strain pulling at my lower abdomen where the hernia stitches held. “I have never heard of them.”

“Neither have I,” Brandon said, zooming in on the transaction details. “Twelve thousand dollars each time, spaced three hours apart.”

“That keeps them under the fifteen-thousand-dollar threshold for automatic audit alerts,” I said.

Brandon nodded, his face grim in the blue light of the monitor. “They were authorized using the remote administrator key.”
