Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room
The prosecutor, a sharp-faced woman named Miller, sat behind a desk piled high with blue folders.
She looked at me with the tired eyes of someone who had spent the night reading financial statements.
“The evidence from the penthouse is solid, Mr. Brennan,” Miller said, tapping a silver pen against her desk. “We have the audio, the wire transfers, and the signed instructions from the blue envelope.”
“What are the options?” I asked.
“We can offer a plea deal to Dr. Mercer,” she said. “If he testifies against your wife, we can secure a twenty-year sentence for her without a lengthy trial.”
Mia sat next to me, her hand resting on the arm of my chair.
“And if we do not agree to a deal?” Mia asked.
“We go to trial on the conspiracy to commit murder charges,” Miller said. “It will be public. The newspapers will have access to every financial record and every minute of the audio tapes.”
I looked at the window, where the first flakes of a new snowstorm were beginning to hit the glass.
