“Did you get a name?” Brandon asked.
“No,” I said, sitting in the leather chair. “But she signed something without reading it, and she kept her phone face down the entire time.”
Brandon stopped tapping the pen. “That sounds like a transfer of title or a power of attorney.”
“We need to know what she is doing with the money from the reserve,” I said. “And why she insisted on Dr. Mercer for my surgery.”
Brandon looked at me, his eyes cool and steady. “I still have some contacts from my time in Army CID. One of them is a forensic accountant in Denver.”
“Can he look into Mercer?” I asked.

He reached for his laptop, his hand hovering over the keyboard. “If we start pulling these threads, there is no going back.”
“Pull them,” I said.
Brandon closed his laptop and looked at me with the cold eyes of an investigator who already smells a trap.
