Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room

“Did she come back?” he asked, sitting in the leather chair opposite my desk.

“She is back,” I said. “She bought me a trip to Cabo.”

Brandon walked over and looked down at the voucher lying on my green blotter. He did not touch it, but he picked up my brass pen and began tapping it against his palm.

“Apex Luxury Travel,” he read aloud.

“The billing address matches the dummy account that drained forty-three thousand dollars from our reserve,” I said.

Brandon tapped the pen harder, his jaw tightening.

“She is using our own concrete money to buy the flight,” he said.

“She wants me out of Denver by next Tuesday,” I said.

“Vance is still tracing the accounts in Phoenix,” Brandon said, his voice dropping to a low whisper. “He needs more time to get the historical files from the Arizona medical board.”

“How much time?” I asked.

“Ten days,” he said. “Maybe twelve.”

“If I refuse to go, she will know something is wrong,” I said.

“Then you play along,” Brandon said. “You look her in the eye and you tell her it is the best idea she ever had.”
