Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room

“Twelve thousand,” I repeated, thinking of the wire transfers Brandon had found in our corporate reserve.

“Always cash,” Vance said. “Always clean, crisp hundred-dollar bills wrapped in paper bands from local casinos.”

Brandon tapped his brass pen hard against the table, the sharp rap echoing in the quiet corner of the diner.

“The money is coming from somewhere inside Redstone, Robert,” Brandon said.

“We do not know that yet,” I said, though my voice sounded thin even to myself.

Vance leaned forward, his elbows resting on the table near his plate of half-eaten eggs.

“I can only help you if you let me see where the money is moving,” Vance said.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a plain white business card with a direct desk number written in blue ink.

“If we open your corporate books to my department, we can trace the source of those cash withdrawals,” Vance said.

“That would require a formal audit trail,” I said, my mind immediately jumping to our current bidding process for the RiNo project. “If our lenders see the police in our accounts, they will pull our line of credit.”
