She picked up the crystal glass and held it out to me. The water was perfectly clear, with two ice cubes floating at the top.
“Did you talk to Brandon?” she asked.
“I did,” I said. “He told me the framing inspection at RiNo was pushed back to the end of the month.”
She smiled, her shoulders dropping in a visible release of tension.
“So we can go?” she asked.
“We can go,” I said. “I called the airline and confirmed the seats.”
“Oh, Robert,” she said, leaning down to press her forehead against my temple. Her skin was warm, and the familiar scent of jasmine filled the space between us. “You have no idea how happy that makes me.”
“I think it is exactly what we need,” I said, my hand resting on the arm of the chair.
“I want everything to be perfect for us,” she said, stepping back and smoothing the front of her robe. “I am going to start packing the summer clothes tomorrow.”
“That sounds fine,” I said.
She reached out and patted my shoulder, her fingers lingering for a second before she turned toward the door.
