Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room

“On a Tuesday morning,” I said, remembering the day of my surgery.

“Exactly,” Brandon said. “While you were still in the recovery room.”

I rubbed my left wrist, the skin there feeling cold.

“We need to let her go to Aspen,” I said.

“Vance agrees,” Brandon said. “He wants to see if she meets anyone up there.”

I drove home at five, the traffic on Speer Boulevard moving in a slow, agonizing crawl.

When I pulled into the driveway of our Cherry Creek house, the lights in the master bedroom were already on.

I walked through the back door, the house quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator.

Nicole was standing by the closet in our bedroom, laying out three cashmere sweaters on the bed.

“You are home early,” she said, turning to look at me with a small, pleasant smile.

“The meeting was pushed to Monday,” I said, sitting down on the small armchair in the corner.

She picked up a small blue travel bag and began sliding the sweaters inside, her fingers moving with a practiced, methodical efficiency.
