Redstone Construction CEO Learns About Blue Envelope in Hospital Recovery Room

“You are late,” Mercer said on the audio feed. His voice was thin, stripped of its usual clinical weight by the tiny microphone Brandon had hidden in the lamp.

“The traffic on Speer Boulevard was backed up for three blocks,” Nicole said. She did not look at him as she walked toward the kitchen island.

She stood near the marble counter, her fingers instantly finding her emerald ring and twisting it around her finger. The camera caught the green flash of the stone under the pendant lights.

“Did you get the signature on the authorization form?” Mercer asked, walking toward her.

“Not yet,” Nicole said. She stopped twisting the ring and looked up at him.

In the van, Vance shifted his weight. His boots squeaked against the rubber matting on the floor, but his eyes remained on the screen.

“Why not?” Mercer asked.

“He is being careful,” Nicole said. “He spent three hours with Brandon this morning looking at the lumber invoices for the RiNo project.”
