“And the key card?” I asked.

“It was registered to Michael,” David said, showing a spreadsheet on a second monitor. “Key card number 04. It was issued three years ago when he moved out of the house. It was used to bypass the alarm system at exactly six and four minutes on Saturday morning.”

“So Michael gave it to her,” I said, my voice barely a whisper in the cold office.

“Or she took it,” Avery said, standing by the window. “But either way, her brother had it in his hand when he opened your back door.”

“Let me see the video again,” I said.

David pressed a key, and the video played again.

The figure walked quickly. He was carrying a small black canvas bag, the kind used for tools. He reached the door, swiped the card, and the indicator light turned from red to green. He entered the house, closing the door behind him.

“He was inside for exactly twelve minutes,” David said.

“Twelve minutes,” I said.

“And the note?” I asked.
