Boston Mother Cancels Twenty Two Million Dollar Wedding Gift After Morning Betrayal
“You should be sitting with your wife, Michael,” I said, straightening my spine.
“I just checked the banking app on my phone,” he said, stepping closer so our shoulders almost touched. “The twenty-two million dollar transfer is not showing. It was supposed to clear at noon.”
I took a slow sip of my water, letting the cold glass rest against my fingers.
“There is an administrative delay,” I said.
“A delay?” He gripped his champagne flute so tightly the liquid sloshed over the rim. “The bank said the hold came from our office. Did you freeze it, Mother?”
“I am reviewing the estate documents,” I said, looking past him to where Victoria was talking to her mother.
“We need that capital for the down payment on the Commonwealth Avenue brownstone,” Michael whispered, his tone turning apologetic yet desperate. “The seller wants the escrow verified by Monday morning.”
“The seller will have to wait,” I said.
He leaned in, his breath smelling faintly of sweet wine. “Victoria is already asking about the confirmation receipt, and I do not know what to tell her.”
