Boston Mother Cancels Twenty Two Million Dollar Wedding Gift After Morning Betrayal
“He made his choice when he gave her that card,” Avery said softly. He handed me a silver pen. The metal was cold against my fingers.
“They are calling me unstable, Avery,” I said, looking out at the distant lights of the ships in the harbor. “They think they can frighten me into giving them twenty-two million dollars.”
“They do not know you,” Avery said.
I pulled the red binder toward me.
I did not hesitate.
I aligned my signature with the line at the bottom of the page.
I signed my initials at the bottom of the draft exclusion clause.
“That is done, then,” Avery said, taking the red binder and sliding it into his leather briefcase.
I watched him lock the brass clasps with a dull click that seemed to echo in the quiet office.
“Now we wait for the reaction,” I said.
Avery walked me to my car, his large umbrella held high against the cold Boston drizzle that had begun to fall over the harbor.
“Go home, Beatrice,” he said, his voice slow and heavy with concern. “Get some rest before tomorrow.”
