Boston Mother Cancels Twenty Two Million Dollar Wedding Gift After Morning Betrayal

“The board cannot remove you without a formal medical evaluation,” Avery said. “But the publicity alone will stall our spring refinancing. The banks will not close on the wharf loan while there are rumors about your mental capacity.”

“Who gave them the details about the wig?” I asked.

Avery did not answer. He picked up his silk cloth again and cleaned his glasses, staring down at the polished wood of the table.

“The security report from this morning,” I said, my voice cutting through the quiet. “The digital log. Which card was used to enter my house?”

“Card number zero-four,” Avery said. “The one issued to the south entry.”

“That was Michael’s card,” I said.

“Are you certain?”

“I bought the system three years ago,” I said. “I assigned card zero-one to myself, zero-two to the housekeeper, zero-three to the office, and card zero-four to Michael when he was staying in the carriage house during his recovery from his appendix surgery.”

“He told me he lost that card last winter,” I whispered.

“He didn’t lose it,” Avery said.
