“I have the complete picture of my head, Avery,” I said, touching the edge of the silver wig. “That is all the picture I require.”

“We do not know that Michael was the one who entered,” Avery said. “He may have lost his card, or someone could have taken it.”

“Then he was careless with the security of my home,” I said. “And carelessness with twenty-two million dollars is something I cannot afford.”

Mr. Vance entered the study, carrying his glowing laptop. “The initial download is complete. I am starting the decryption process now.”

I watched the blue progress bar on his screen reach one hundred percent.

“I will have the verified names and card numbers for you by ten on Monday morning,” Mr. Vance said.

“Make it nine,” I said.

“Nine it is,” he said, setting the laptop on the mahogany desk.
