Boston Mother Cancels Twenty Two Million Dollar Wedding Gift After Morning Betrayal

I touched my collarbone, my fingers finding the edge of my silk collar. “Go on.”

Vance pulled a black tablet from his case and slid it across the polished wood of the desk. “The front door keypad was bypassed using a physical key card at three fourteen on Saturday morning. No code was entered because the card overrode the lock. The alarm was deactivated from the interior foyer panel nine seconds later using the same card.”

“That card is only given to three people,” I said.

“We ran the serial numbers of the card against your master user list,” Vance said, reaching into his briefcase for a printed sheet of paper. “The system recognized the chip immediately. It was the card registered under the name of Victoria Vance. Excuse me, Victoria Whitman.”

He handed me the paper, and I looked at the printed columns of black text. The entry was highlighted in yellow. Card serial number eighty-four twelve, registered to Victoria on the second of November.

“Where is the physical card now?” I asked.
