Boston Mother Cancels Twenty Two Million Dollar Wedding Gift After Morning Betrayal

The study was cold when I entered, the radiator clinking behind the heavy velvet drapes. I placed my leather purse on the mahogany desk, the blue envelope still sealed inside, and sat down to wait. A cup of lukewarm black coffee sat on the corner of the desk, forgotten since my arrival.

Avery arrived exactly at six, carrying two thick red leather binders of my estate plan under his arm. He looked at me, his slow, deep voice filling the quiet room as he set the heavy binders down.

“You look tired, Beatrice,” Avery said, his voice slow and deep.

I straightened my spine and touched my collarbone, ensuring the silver wig remained aligned. “I am quite well, Avery. We have a significant amount of work to do before Monday morning.”

He pulled a silk cloth from his pocket and began to clean his glasses, a familiar gesture that usually signaled his concern. “The twenty-two million dollar transfer is officially on hold. The bank confirmed the freeze at four this afternoon.”

“And Michael?” I asked.
