Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend
James Rivera sat in the corner, his pen tapping a slow, rhythmic beat against his notepad. He did not look at Monica, but his presence was a quiet warning.
The silence in the room grew heavy, punctuated only by the low rumble of traffic on Fourth Avenue below. Margret picked up her silver pen and placed it exactly parallel to her notepad.
Ten minutes later, the door opened and Donald Vance walked back in alone. He stood behind Richard’s empty chair and leaned both hands on the leather back.
“My client will sign the settlement as drafted,” Donald said.
Margret did not look surprised. She adjusted her reading glasses but did not polish them. “And the motion to challenge the prenuptial agreement?”
“Withdrawn,” Donald said. “The evidence of financial fraud and conspiracy nullifies any claim we had to invalidate the original terms.”
Monica let out a small, sharp breath. She looked at Donald, then at the empty doorway behind him. “Where is Richard?”
“He is waiting in the lobby,” Donald said, sliding the blue folder back across the table to James. “He wants this finished today.”
