Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend

As soon as he cleared the corner, I reached across the table.

The phone was heavy in my hand, the screen still warm from his pocket. I flipped it over, my thumb hovering above the glass.

The screen was locked, but a new message banner sat in the center of the display.

It was from Monica.

The preview text read: “The delivery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Did you clear the storage space?”

I stared at the words, the letters blurring slightly before my eyes.

I looked toward the hallway where Richard had disappeared, then back at the screen. I did not open the message, but I memorized the words, every single one of them.

I set the phone back down on the tablecloth, placing it exactly where it had been, face down.

My hand was cold when I pulled it back to my lap.

I remembered the small lens of the security camera I had hidden in the nursery closet ceiling last year, still blinking its tiny green light in the dark.

If there was a delivery coming to our house, or if he was using my resources, I would have to check that feed.
