“Can they do that?” I asked, my fingers tightening around the edge of the paper.
“If a judge signs this, yes,” Margret said. “It would freeze the five million dollars until a full psychiatric evaluation is completed.”
“He froze the accounts to starve us out before the court date,” I said, the words tasting like lead in my mouth.
Margret leaned forward, her eyes narrowing slightly.
“He thinks he has you in a corner, Laura, but he has overplayed his hand.”
“How?” I asked.
“I filed an emergency counter-injunction forty minutes ago,” Margret said. “We are seeking a total freeze on his assets and a halt to the trust distribution based on evidence of marital fraud.”
“Will the judge grant it?” I asked.
“With James Rivera’s surveillance reports and the bank transfer receipts to Monica’s account, yes,” Margret said. “We will freeze the trust ourselves to protect it, but under our terms, not his.”
“What about the prenuptial agreement?” I asked. “Will Richard’s attorney successfully invalidate it?”
