Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend
“Is that the clinic where her specialist is?” I asked, my voice barely reaching across the table.
“It is a fertility specialist,” James said, his pen stopping mid-tap.
I looked closer at the second photo, where they were standing near the registration desk in the lobby.
Richard was leaning toward her, his face inches from hers, whispering something that made her touch her collarbone.
“Why would he go with her to a fertility clinic if she is already pregnant?” I asked.
“The records show he is listed as the partner for her prenatal care,” James said. “He is paying the bills under a secondary account.”
“Monica told me the father was a married colleague who had disappeared,” I said, my voice dropping even lower.
“The only colleague who is disappearing is your husband,” James said, his gravelly voice flat.
He slid another photograph out of the folder, showing them in the parking garage.
Richard had his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close against the damp wind.
The look on his face was not the hurried, distracted expression he wore at home.
He looked content, relaxed, and completely at ease with her.
