Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend

“He told me he helped you order it,” I said, turning to her with a wide, bright smile. “He said you were so overwhelmed with the pregnancy, and he wanted to make sure you had the best quality for the baby. He even used our household discount to get the delivery handled quickly.”

I watched the color drain from her face. She looked at the crib, then back at me, her eyes wide with a sudden, sharp fear.

“He… yes,” she stammered, her voice trailing off. “He was very kind to help with the logistics. I don’t know much about online ordering.”

“We are your family, Monica,” I said, stepping closer and giving her a warm, brief hug. Her body was stiff, like wood. “That is why I came tonight. I have some wonderful news.”

“News?” she asked, pulling back slightly.

“I am signing the trust papers tomorrow morning,” I said, keeping my voice light and excited. “We are transferring the five million dollars to Richard’s account. The lawyers are dropping the motions, and the whole dispute is finally over.”
