Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend
I pulled my hand back, tucking my fingers into my lap. The gold wedding band on my finger felt heavy, a cold weight that I wanted to strip off and throw away, but I kept my hands still.
“He spent forty-one thousand dollars of my savings on your nursery,” I said. “He used my father’s memory to build a life for a child he fathered while sleeping in my house.”
“It was a business arrangement,” Richard muttered, his hands clenching into fists on the mahogany table.
“It was marital fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy,” Margret said, leaning forward until her reading glasses caught the light. “We have already filed an emergency injunction to freeze every account associated with your name, Richard.”
Richard stood up, his chair scraping loudly against the hardwood floor. “My lawyer will have this thrown out by tomorrow morning. You cannot freeze my personal assets.”
“They are not your assets,” Margret said. “Every dollar in those accounts originated from Laura’s family trust, transferred under false pretenses. The court has already signed the preliminary freeze.”
Richard turned to Monica, his voice sharp and cold. “Get your coat. We are leaving.”
