Four Minute Phone Call Exposed My Husband and My Best Friend

Monica stared at me, her mouth slightly open. For a second, I saw the relief in her eyes, followed quickly by a flicker of greed.

“Oh, Laura,” she said. “That is… that is amazing. I am so glad you two worked it out.”

“I want you there with us,” I said, holding her hands. “We are doing the signing at Margret’s office at ten o’clock sharp. I want my best friend in the room when we secure our future. We are going to a champagne brunch right after to celebrate.”

“I don’t know, Laura,” she said, her voice wavering. “A lawyer’s office… it seems very private.”

“Please,” I said, looking her directly in the eyes. “It would mean so much to Richard and me. We want you to be a part of our new life. You and the baby.”

She looked at the crib, then down at her stomach, and finally back at me. The promise of the five million dollars, the security she had been chasing through my husband, was sitting right there on the table.

“Alright,” she said, her voice soft but determined. “I will be there.”
