“Just a reminder to call Dr. Harrison,” he said, slipping the book back into his pocket. “He wanted to know how your focus was today, he mentioned you seemed a bit forgetful during your last session.”
“I remembered everything,” I said.
“Of course you did,” Richard said, his tone overly soothing, the way one speaks to a nervous child. “But it doesn’t hurt to keep track, we want to be sure you are fully recovered before the middle of next month.”
“November fifteenth,” I said.
“Exactly,” he said, his eyes bright. “The final distribution, we want you to be clear and calm when the time comes.”
He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Once the estate is settled, Laura, we can finally look at that office space downtown, I have been talking to a couple of brokers near the waterfront, a private firm with our name on the door.”
“Your own firm,” I said.
“Our firm,” he corrected quickly, patting my hand. “It is a partnership, Laura, everything I do is to build a future for us, to give us the security we deserve after everything we have lost.”
