The Grand Oak Ballroom was quiet when we met the venue manager on Tuesday morning. The large crystal chandeliers hung like frozen rain above the empty wooden floor, and the smell of fresh floor wax was strong enough to make my eyes water.
Mrs. Gable, a small woman with short gray hair and a pair of reading glasses hanging from a silver chain, walked us past the stacked gold chairs to the front of the room.
“We will have the sweetheart table set up right here, facing the dance floor,” she said, tapping her clipboard with her pen. “The head table will run along this wall.”
