My Family Tried to Evict Me from the Craftsman House My Grandparents Left Me
“I know,” I said.
She blinked, her eyes shifting to the briefcase on the counter. “You know? So you’re finally being sensible?”
“I spoke with Richard Morrison this morning,” I said. “I told him I want to settle this.”
Ashley took a step closer, her hand resting on the back of a kitchen chair. “Settle it how?”
“A meeting,” I said. “At his office on Third Street. Thursday afternoon at two o’clock. Tell Dad and Mom to be there.”
She watched me closely, trying to find the catch. “You’ll sign the quitclaim deed? The real one, to clear up the title?”
“I will bring all the necessary paperwork,” I said. “We can sign everything in front of Richard, and he can notarize the final agreements. It will be over.”
A slow, satisfied look spread across her face, though she tried to hide it by smoothing her skirt. “I knew you’d see reason, Emily. It’s really for the best. The house is just too much for you to maintain alone.”
“Tell Dad to bring the release forms for the savings account,” I said. “I want my money back the moment the house is settled.”
