He paused, his eyes shifting from the screen to my face. “Is this a family dispute over a will?”
“She forged my signature on a quitclaim deed to secure a private loan on my home on Elm Street,” I said. I pulled the copy of the forged deed from my bag and pressed it against the glass. “The signature is not mine. I have my original signature on my passport and tax returns for comparison.”
Officer Miller took the document, sliding it through the tray. He scanned the pages, his thumb tracing the blue notary stamp at the bottom of the second page.
“This was recorded on the fourteenth of last month,” he said.
“Yes,” I said. “And I did not sign it.”
He began typing again, his fingers moving quickly over the keys. “This will go to the financial crimes division. An investigator will call you within five business days to take a formal statement.”
“Thank you,” I said. “I need the report number today.”
He printed a small slip of paper and slid it under the glass.
