My Family Tried to Evict Me from the Craftsman House My Grandparents Left Me

The man looked up, adjusting his baseball cap. “Just finishing the boundary verification.”

“Who authorized this?” I asked. “I own this property.”

He pulled a clipboard from his vest pocket and flipped through the pages. “The order came from Carter Realty Services. A woman named Ashley Carter. She said the property was being prepared for subdivision.”

“There is no subdivision,” I said. “This is a single residential lot, and you are trespassing. Please pack up your equipment and leave.”

“The client paid the rush fee,” he said, looking back at his transit. “I have two more pins to locate near the back fence.”

“If you do not leave right now, I am calling the Riverside police department,” I said. “I have the deed in my name, and I have not authorized any survey.”

The surveyor looked at my face, then down at his clipboard. He sighed, slipping his pen into his vest pocket.

“Alright,” he said, lifting the yellow pole from the grass. “I will note it as a disputed boundary in the file.”
