“Is there a problem?” I asked.
“There is a hold on this account, Miss Carter,” David said, squinting at the monitor.
“What kind of hold?” I asked.
“It is listed as a co-signer dispute freeze,” he said, turning the screen slightly away from my view. “The primary joint owner filed a restriction on withdrawals this morning.”
“My father is the joint owner,” I said, my hand tightening on the edge of the marble counter. “That account was set up when I was twelve. He hasn’t touched it in fifteen years.”
“I understand,” David said. “But because his name remains on the original signature card, he has the legal authority to freeze the assets if there is an active family dispute.”
“My personal paychecks are deposited there,” I said. “There is over eleven thousand dollars in that account.”
“I can’t override a joint owner’s freeze from this terminal,” David said, looking past me to the small queue forming behind me. “You will need to speak with the branch manager.”
