My Family Tried to Evict Me from the Craftsman House My Grandparents Left Me
I sat back, holding my hands in my lap to keep them still. Ashley looked different without her usual heavy leather folder, her blonde hair pulled back in a simple ponytail that she immediately began to adjust, tugging at the elastic band.
“I wanted to apologize, Emily,” she said, her voice dropping to a quiet whisper. “For what I said at the dining table last week.”
I looked at her, waiting for the catch, but her face remained remarkably soft in the dimming light of the yard.
“I was under a lot of pressure with my own finances,” she continued, looking down at her glass. “I let my stress get the better of me, and I took it out on you. It was not fair.”
“You said some very hurtful things, Ashley,” I said.
“I know,” she said, her voice shaking slightly as she reached across the glass table to touch my arm. “But you are my sister. I do not want us to be like this over a piece of property.”
