Three Baby Cribs and a Missing Set of Car Keys
“I have two hundred dollars left from my paycheck,” Shaun said. “We can get the generic brand if we need to.”
“The babies get colic from the generic,” I said, setting another plate in the cupboard. “The papers are ready, and the movers are paid. I do not want you spending your own money on our groceries, Shaun.”
“You do not have a choice right now,” he said, taking three coffee mugs from the newspaper wrapping and lining them up on the open shelf. “Ryan is not going to send anything once he sees the empty house.”
“Does the lawyer know Ryan is coming back Friday afternoon?” I asked.
I nodded, reaching for a roll of adhesive shelf paper. “Evelyn is bringing the final custody documents this afternoon. She wanted to make sure we were completely moved in before we signed.”
Shaun hung a heavy iron skillet on the hook near the stove. “He is going to call the minute his friends drop him off. He will think you are just out with the babies.”
