Sable’s hand went to the gold pendant around her neck, the one that had belonged to Gordon’s mother. Her fingers hovered over the gold link, then dropped to her lap.
“This is a family matter,” Sable said, her voice rising in pitch. “We had bills to pay. Gordon left us with nothing.”
“The court finds the transfer of these assets was authorized under the primary trust,” Judge Miller said, her pen leaving a dark, heavy mark on the order before her. “And the court finds evidence of material fraud regarding the River Oaks property.”
The judge signed her name with a quick, decisive stroke.
“An immediate freeze is hereby placed on all probate estate assets,” Judge Miller said, her voice level and cold. “The River Oaks home is restored to the sole possession of Cassandra Reed, effective immediately.”
She looked at Sable, then at the bailiff standing near the door.
“A copy of this file is being forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review of the forgery allegation,” the judge added. “Court is adjourned.”
