William Edwards Leaves His Screaming Son on a Friday Afternoon in Hartford

Marsha looked at the judge, her chin rising.

“Owen has severe behavioral issues,” Marsha said. “My husband refuses to see them because of his own trauma. I had to take action.”

“Did you consult your husband before signing this contract?” Karen asked.

“He would have said no,” Marsha said, her voice rising slightly. “He is weak. He does not understand what it takes to raise a boy.”

“So you withdrew the funds, signed the contract, and arranged for the enrollment without his knowledge or consent?”

“I did what was necessary for our family,” Marsha said.

“And the enrollment date is tomorrow morning, Friday at nine o’clock, correct?” Karen asked.

Marsha’s manicured fingers curled into her palms.

“Yes,” she said.

Karen turned to the judge.

“Your Honor, the emergency custody petition filed by Mrs. Edwards claimed the child was in immediate danger from his father,” Karen said. “In reality, the petition was a stalling tactic designed to keep Mr. Edwards away from his son until they could put him on a plane to Idaho tomorrow morning.”

Judge Geller leaned forward, his elbows resting on his desk.
