Paying three hundred thousand dollars of debt before being ordered out of the house

“I paid three hundred thousand dollars of my personal funds to clear the debt on this house,” I said.

“You cleared the liabilities of Webb Consulting,” Marcus corrected, his voice rising slightly as he stepped closer to the island. “You signed those guarantees as a personal choice, and the funds were applied directly to the corporate debts.”

“Which you guaranteed personally,” I said.

“The corporate shares are my property, Clare,” Marcus said, a small, triumphant smile touching the corners of his mouth. “And the house belongs to the trust. You have no legal claim to either.”

I did not move, my arms remaining at my sides as I processed the absolute finality of their plan. They had waited until the last dollar was wired before revealing their hand, believing they had outmaneuvered me.

“We would like you to vacate the premises by the end of the week,” Evelyn said, her voice dripping with artificial sympathy. “Marcus will arrange for a professional moving service to pack your personal effects so that nothing is damaged.”

“Pack your things, Clare, I have found someone who actually fits my life,” Marcus said, his face cold and triumphant.
