Arthur Nelson Protected His Wyoming Mountain Cabin with a Trust
“I need a full printout of my retirement account balance, please,” I said, sliding my driver’s license across the polished wood counter.
Clara tapped at her keyboard, the small clicks sounding like dry twigs snapping. She paused, her eyes scanning the monitor.
“Mr. Nelson, did you submit a change of address request online yesterday?” she asked.
“No,” I said. “My address is the county road cabin.”
“There is a pending request on the secondary savings account,” she said, turning the monitor slightly toward her shoulder. “It lists a post office box in Denver. It was entered through the online portal using your security PIN.”
My throat went dry. I had given Cornelius that PIN three years ago when I had my knee surgery and needed him to transfer five hundred dollars for my utility bills.
“Can you stop it?” I asked.
“I can flag it as disputed,” she said, her fingers hovering over the keys. “But the system takes forty-eight hours to update. You should check with your lawyer.”
